This funny NY Times article compares and contrasts Old-School Sesame with today's Sesame.  In case you haven't heard Sesame Street recently released DVD sets of vintage Sesame Street (I'm talking late 60's through the 70's) with a warning label that states that the DVDs may not be suitable for today's preschooler.  Hehe!  A fun read.
