Sneaking in Exercise

Obesity in children and teens is on the rise.  With television, MP3 players, video games, computers, and cell phones, kids are getting less exercise than they have in the past.  If you have a child who needs to lose some weight, one way to sneak in exercise is to get the new Dance Dance Revolution video game.  Based on the fun arcade version, this game gets kids on their feet and dancing.  While most versions mainly involve footwork, the Wii version includes arms as well.  Children won’t even realize that they’re exercising…they just know they're having fun!

My daughter burns some calories by putting on "shows" to music. We just turn the music on and she does all kinds of running around, jumping and dancing.

How about turning the media off and kicking your kids outside to play? Kids have been doing it for thousands of years in all kinds of weather, and found active ways to entertain themselves. Rather than invest in video games, I'd get a fence around the yard for youngsters, or a soccer ball for the older ones & throw the TV out!

I second that! My girlfriend and I also like to take handweights and do this as an aerobic workout for ourselves too! Fun for the whole family and great cardio!

Another way to sneak in excercise is to have them walk or ride a bike to and from school.
