Do you have a favorite snapshot of your child that you would love to turn into a lasting work of art? My sister had portraits of her children done by John Novak, an independent artist who lived and worked in New York for over 10 years, and now lives in Columbus, OH. You can see examples of his portraits here, and answers to some frequently asked questions here. She said, "I was blown away by the results. The paintings make me smile every time I see them – they show my kids' spirit and energy, and are remarked on by every visitor to the house." Each stage of childhood is so fleeting. Consider capturing a moment in paint. Comments
I was lucky enough to have a portrait of my 2-year-old daughter done by John Novak this fall. The result took my breath away when I unwrapped it--because he truly captured her sweetness and impishness, and because I just really enjoy his style as an artist. This painting would stop me in my tracks, even if the subject wasn't my daughter. I always wanted to have a portrait of her that was more vibrant than the ones I'd seen around. Novak's look is contemporary, but warm and rich at the same time. Now to find just the right frame that this artwork deserves...we feel so lucky to have it in our home and someday, I will pass it on to my daughter, and so on. And all I had to do was provide the artist with my favorite photo! He was able to tell me which one would work best, too, since I can be really indecisive. I can't wait to have one done of my new baby when he is a little older, or maybe the two of them together! This would make a very special gift for grandparents, too.
