This is so cute and simple, environmentally friendly and really gets the kids excited.  Get a small ziploc bag and fill it with birdseed, sunflower seeds and a tiny bit of glitter.  Shake the bag up and let everything mix together.  Cut a small square out of construction paper in color of choice and then paste a smaller square on top of that one.  You can write Reindeer food on it, or a poem or whatever you like. Then you simply staple it to the ziploc bag or paste it. This is what ours says: Sprinkle on the lawn at night, the moon will make it sprinkle bright, Santa's reindeer fly and roam, This will guide them to your home.

My daughter will be 3 this month and is so excited about Christmas this year.  Not only do we get to leave Santa cookies and milk, we get to sprinkle "reindeer food" outside of the patio.  This is great because she asked me why we do not have a chimney and this explains how he can find our house without looking for a chimney.

Hi, Mile High-I thought about that. Trust me when I say it is a drop. It is not enough for them to even sniff or see. It is all for my daughter's fun. I appreciate you posting this though b/c some people may get carried away with it. The glitter is for Santa and the reindeer to see from his sleigh. That is why I say tiny bit of glitter in the posting. Merry Christmas and thanks for reading!

This is a really cute idea, but please leave out the glitter. Glitter is extremely toxic for wild animals.

"Reindeer Food" is so cute! You can also make it with oatmeal and glitter. DON'T FORGET to sweep it (leaving just a few crumbs!) off your porch, deck, sidewalk, etc. so your children think the reindeer ate it!!
