My son has recently become obsessed with the Nick Jr. show The Backyardigans. I openly admit that the first couple times I watched it, it bugged the heck out of me. I thought it was annoying, the songs wouldn't get out of my head, I just didn't like it. But I realized, this isn't about me. My son loved it. So I gave the show another chance. I am now a convert. After giving The Backyardigans another chance, I realized what a great lesson it is teaching kids. The show is all about using your imagination, working together and friendship. The songs that were once annoying, now are fun to sing with my son. Every week my son has a new favorite. First it was Austin, then Tasha, then Pablo, then Uniqua and now it's Tyrone. (FYI - Borders Bookstores sells little stuffed versions of these - is it sad I know all their names?). We, as a family, are pretending more. Just today, we had our pirate hats on and the big chair was our pirate ship. I swear, Otto and I sing & dance so much some days, you'd think our life was a musical. For those of you that have not seen this show, or were annoyed like I was, please give The Backyardigans a chance. It's really fun! Comments
