| +1 | Liven Up Your Living Space While Cleaning the Air |
Indoor air can be up to 10 times more polluted than outdoor air. Common culprits include benzene (solvent used in gasoline, oil, paints, plastics and rubber), TCE (dry cleaners, printing inks, paints, lacquers, varnishes and adhesives) and Formaldehyde (pressed woods, grocery bags, facial tissue, many household cleaning agents, etc ...). While it is nearly impossible to get rid of all these items even when you phase them out one way to improve your living space is by using plants to clean up the air. Most or all plants help remove carbon dioxide, but some plants even absorb the off gas of some of the toxic chemicals that hide in our homes. The plants that are most effective at filtering indoor air are Aglaonema (Chineese Evergreen), Spathiphyllum (Peace-lilly), Syngonium (Arrowhead vine), Hedera (Engligh ivy), Dracaena (Cornplant), and Scindapsus (Devil's ivy). http://www.rosefloral.com/nsplnt.htm http://www.treehugger.com/files/2007/10/green-basics-indoor-air-pollution.php
