Affordable Top-quality Infant Formula (with DHA and ARA) at Costco

When we were ready to stop breastfeeding, my daughter was still too young to switch to milk, and we were very worried about the cost of formula.

We were very excited to discover that Costco's Signature Kirkland Infant Formula was not only vastly cheaper than the cheap kinds at the grocery store, but was the same formula as the very expensive ones! It is fortified with DHA and ARA like the premium formulas, but is less than $20 for two large cans-just about exactly half as much as it costs at Safeway. My pediatrician said it was fine, as I checked with her just to be sure she didn't think there was any reason not to go with a "generic." When you end up using a can about every ten days, the fact that you spend half as much really adds up!

If you can't or don't breastfeed, the formulas fortified with DHA and ARA can give you a little extra confidence. The only thing is that they are milk-based, and there isn't a soy-based formula available, so if your baby needs the soy formula it won't work for you.

In addition to breastfeeding, my daughter got one bottle of formula a day from the time she only a few weeks old. When she was about six months, I too switched from the name-brand to the Kirkland brand at Costco. There was absolutely NO difference, except in the price. Since then, I did read a personal review somewhere that mentioned that the Kirkland brand can be hard on infants' stomachs, so if you wanted to use it with a newborn you might check with your pediatrician first. But for older babies I highly recommend it!
