Looking for a fun way to spend some time with the kids, out of the sun, in the heat of a Sacramento summer? Try the Exploit Science Center in Davis, CA. This fun-filled center of all things science is sure to entertain kids of all ages for hours! There are two rotating exhibits that offer unique hands on experiments, a room filled with recyclable objects that kids can use to create structures for a $1, and yet another room that showcases a few of the Center's, insects and reptiles (coakroaches anyone?), as well as robotics building parts, blocks, books, and a puppet theatre. Right now the rotating exhibits are "Go with the Flow" and "Move It - Science in Action". "Go with the Flow" teaches kids everything from how a whale uses its balen to eat, to water surface tension, to how pollution affects watersheds. "Move It - Science in Action" covers how bicycles work, to the science behind falling objects and friction ramps, to a zoetrop that you can create your own picture for and set spinning. The staff is helpful, and completely unbothered by masses of kids running around. They have an outdoor area that is nice for a picnic and right next door is an indoor skate hockey rink. We have also had my son's 8th birthday party at Explorit. Out of their many themes he choose dinosaur fossils and our docent was a nice college age kid who was great with 8 rambuctious boys. the highlights of the party were making their own fossils with plastic dinosaurs and holding a ball python and a blue-tongue skink. The Explorit Science Center is a great place to visit for all ages and there is free admission one Sunday a month. Comments
