My daughter and I are all about picnics. But what is more fun than a picnic on the National Mall? My daughter and I load up her oversized Radio Flyer wagon with the canopy, with sunscreen and food and drinks and a blanket. Of course we can't forget a ball and a kite! If you sit near the Washington Monument on that hill it gets great wind because it is up high and there are no nearby trees. We did this at the kitefest, and this is going to be our new thing to do on an unscheduled day. It is more fabulous because of the backdrops of the gorgeous monuments and all of the rich history.

PS As a parent of a 3 year old, I always Metro during the week and get up really early and drive if it is a weekend. The metro is overcrowded on the weekends due to events, and even though we don't drive much anymore in the effort to stay green, it is nice to plunk everything in the car including my daughter and she can snooze in peace!~
