Discover Mills Mall is a large and very kid-oriented mall right next to Interstate 85 northeast of Atlanta, with a merry-go-round, a spider-climb and trapeze ride, ice cream shops, a huge gaming arcade, and an inflated bouncing room (7 bucks for 30 minutes) all located closely together. Each of these great activities are within a toddler's walking range IF you start out at the right place. But getting in and out of this huge facility can be a problem on the weekends, and if you start your visit in the wrong place you might end up taking a long, long hike.
I always enter the Mall at Entry Four. The Mall is basically a large triangle bounded by Sugarloaf Parkway on the east, where the "front" entrance is, Interstate 85 on the north, and Highway 20 (Duluth Highway to locals) on the west. Find the entrances to the huge parking lots that sit to the west, along Duluth Highway 20. After you enter, make sure you head southwards to the Mall's movie theatre along the looping parking lot access road.
Each Entry into the Mall is marked by signs in the parking lots, and Entry Four is set right next to the Mall's movie theatre. When you do go in, the spider climb and trapeze are right in front of the movie theatre, and the skateboarding center and a wonderful bookstore are straight ahead. The bouncy room, ice cream shops, arcade and merry-go-round are all set along the promenade to your left, with the merry-go-round being in the middle of the central food court. You'll even stroll past a wonderful (and pricey) medievel jousting theatre on your way to the food court. Unless you specifically desire camping equipment, avoid entering the mall through the more northerly entryways next to the humongous sporting goods supermart - it is almost a mile-long walk from there to the kiddy stuff, with only clothing boutiques to provide distractions for your little ones.
