Please Don't Raise Greedy, Entitled Children

As a middle school teacher, lately I've noticed a lot of greedy, entitled children who don't seem to realize that they are not the only ones in the room. For example, if there are enough snacks for 30 people, sometimes three or four kids will take many times their own share, so ten or twelve kids won't get any. And we've all experienced holding a bowl of Halloween candy, expecting each child to select one, but some children reach in and take all they can possibly grab. Allowing your child to behave this way does not benefit your child! Take a look at this terrific article on why kids are entitled and how to avoid it. It's written for teachers, but is perfect for parents as well. I'm absolutely certain you don't want your child's teacher to feel about him or her the way I do about some of the kids in my class.

I got my hands on this incredable program that will teach children to have the self-esteem, respect, and self-worth that they deserve! This program will help deteriate a lot of this greedy problem that is going on in our youth. Please take a look! I bought it for my daughter and it has worked wonders! http://www.theunlimitedchild.com

I agree with you completely, Kris, but by the age of 14, it is not always possible or probable for the teacher to moniter every move they make. That is for mom and dad.

The problem I see is the adult isn't acting like an adult in that situation. Set them up for success. Instead of allowing students to take more than one, begin by saying, "Since there are only 30, everyone will be allow to have just one treat. Isn't it nice that so-and-so brought this?" and more on. The candy ar the door, don't leave it out there, HAND it to them...teaching doesn't occur only in a school building.
