When the summer heat makes outdoor play difficult for younger children, it's time to look for water fun in our area. I have to say that Gwinnett County's Parks and Recreation Department has a great system of well-maintained swimming pools, with outdoor pools opening on May 24th in 2008 for the summer season. These Aquatic Centers are very well-priced, charging $5 for adults and offering discounts for infants, kids and seniors; and here's the Hot Tip of the season - get there at the final hour of the day! At almost every Gwinnett pool, you will be able to pay half-price for all tickets! If you get there ten minutes before the last open hour, use those ten minutes to get everybody changed into their swim gear and slathered in sun lotion. At that particular time, the pool will probably be having a 15 minute "rest period" anyway, to prevent the all the pumps from burning out. I regularly visit several of the swimming pools in the County Parks system, and they are usually well-run and lots of fun. With that in mind, let me note that not all swimming pools are equally good. The best include both indoor and outdoor pools, which allow you and your family to decide just how much open air and sun you can handle. This describes both Mountain Park, West Gwinnett and Collins Hill Aquatic Centers.
The Gwinnett County goverment's website is easy to navigate, and you can learn all about it's extensive Parks and Recreation system in the URL I included here.
