| +8 | Best Motel Near Storyland, Glen, NH |
I'm almost hesitant to dole out this tip, but I wish I'd seen it when we first went to Storyland. This was our third visit. Each time we've visited we stayed in a different hotel and this year was by far the best. The first year we stayed at the Storybook Inn which is literally around the corner from Storyland in Glen, NH. We booked the only suite they had because our kids were just 5 and 2 then and we wanted two rooms. We had a great time, but the room was in sad shape and we had to drag the mattresses onto the sloping floor because the beds were so bad. Last year we rented a suite/condo at Attitash. This room had a kitchenette and a separate bedroom. Again, we had fun, but the room wasn't great, we had a hike to the pool, and it wasn't so comfortable. This year we stayed at the Red Apple Inn on Route 302. What a great spot! It's not fancy, so if you want something upscale, this is definitely not the place, but for a clean, inexpensive, convenient, kid-friendly spot, the Red Apple can't be beat. We got a room facing the pool which is in back of the motel. Our room was plain, but clean with a mini-fridge and two queen beds. Our door opened onto a walkway with a few chairs right by our door. Beyond the walkway were picnic tables and beyond that was the pool. Off to the left was a lovely playground. You could see everything right from the doorway of the room. When we arrived after driving from Rhode Island, the kids ran to the playground climber and rebuffed our urgings to leave for Storyland. They were so thrilled with the playground and the pool, they could have skipped the amusement park. After hours at Storyland, we were all tired. Rather than risk a restaurant with cranky young kids, we got pizza and ate at the picnic tables by the pool. Heavenly! The kids didn't have to sit still and the parents could enjoy their meal. The motel even has a grill which someone used the next night (while we dined on leftovers heated in the motel's microwave!) A breakfast buffet is included and served in a nice, clean room. There was cereal, bagels, fruit, toast, juice, coffee, etc. Our last morning there we discovered the game room--basically a somewhat musty finished basement, but full of toys, games, video games and a pool table. All for under $140 a night. What a find! Comments
Great tip - we have driven by many times and it looked great. We will have to try it on our next trip up! thanks!
